On the way to the 37th title in his long career, Höller really had to stretch himself: After top positions in the first two heats, he lost a wheel at the edge of the track in the third heat. His crew of mechanics was able to replace the wheel at the side of the racetrack very quickly – but the top position for the final day was now beyond his grasp. Höller started the final heat in fourth place from the second row.

From there, he put in a remarkable performance to catch up and overtake the Hungarians Zoltan Vass (Audi) and Csabe Spitzmüller (Audi) who started in front of him. Only World Championships starter Tamas Karai – also from Hungary – remained ahead in his Audi A1.

Alois Höller, who finished second, was still very satisfied with this result: “Fourth place on the grid was anything but ideal. In this respect, I am just as satisfied with second place in this race as I am with the Austrian Championship title overall. I’m pleased that the first of the possible 2019 titles is in the bag,” said the RUBBLE MASTER driver at the finish.
