Space-saving, powerful and versatile – these are the qualities that distinguish the crushers and screens from RUBBLE MASTER. The RM 70GO! 2.0 crusher and the RM CS4800 screen have once again proven how compact they really are, crushing and screening rock at an altitude of over 3000 metres on the Titlis, one of the highest excursion mountains in Switzerland. An additional concrete plant enables rapid processing and recycling directly on site. The result: top-quality end grain, considerable time and cost savings. In addition, the environment is protected by avoiding countless transport journeys.

At an altitude of over 3000 metres, the Titlis is one of the most famous excursion destinations in Switzerland. Since 1967, the mountain station has transported millions of visitors to the glacier. Now this and a new, single-track cable car are to be renewed or rebuilt. The consortium (Arbeitsgemeinschaft) Titlis 3020 Schweiz, including Marti AG, Porr Suisse and Bürgi AG, has been working since May this year on this multi-million project, which is to be completed by 2027. In order to work efficiently and save time and costs, the Titlis 3020 consortium relies on the RM 70GO! 2.0 from RUBBLE MASTER, which is easy to transport due to its compact size and low weight and, thanks to its wide crusher inlet, can process large rock & stone blocks quickly. In addition to the crusher, the RM CS4800 mobile screen is also used on site to process the gravel into high-quality final grain. In this way, the fractions 0-4, 4-8, 8-16, 16-32 can be produced in the fewest possible working steps.

Reliability & flexibility despite extreme conditions

“At this altitude, we need a lightweight, enormously powerful crusher that is operational and reliable even in extreme weather conditions. The crusher and screen from RUBBLE MASTER fulfil all this. Another advantage is the crawler chassis, which provides even more flexibility on the mountain. This means that even at an altitude of over 3,000 metres, we can move the equipment to another location and process material at any time,” says Martin Käslin, site manager of ARGE Titlis 3020.

Top customer service guarantees transport at an altitude of over 3000 metres

In addition to the flexibility and maximum performance offered by RM’s crushers and screens, Käslin also emphasises the extremely obliging advice as well as the excellent service and individual planning provided by RM Switzerland. After all, the transport of the crusher to the glacier was planned for more than 12 months until the impact crusher was finally delivered and transported to the Titlis in June 2023. The crusher was first transported by truck to the Trübsee intermediate station. A specially converted forwarder then transported the crusher to the middle station, Stand station. Here the crusher then shed around 9 tonnes of weight. While the dismantled parts were transported to the top station by aerial cableway, the remaining crusher continued its ascent with the help of the converted forwarder via a black runway. Once at the destination, RM Switzerland reassembled the previously dismantled parts. In the meantime, the crusher was able to process rock into valuable final grain during more than 150 operating hours.

“This project shows once again that we can respond to the individual needs of each customer and offer tailor-made solutions. I am pleased that we were once again able to prove our unique service,” says Pascal Schärer, Managing Director of RM Switzerland.

At the start of the expansion of the RM production hall at the beginning of October, the Upper Austrian technology company is using one of its own crushers to process the asphalt directly on site and reuse it for the construction of the hall. This recycling process not only saves the company costs, but also some lorry journeys, thus protecting the environment. In addition to the expansion of the production hall, a new service centre and then a logistics centre will be built at the site in Linz-Pichling from 2024.

This year’s Service Champion Meeting took place on 14 and 15 September with great pleasure and success. We welcomed a total of 16 participants from 10 different countries. It was a special opportunity to bring together our global service champions and share best practices.

The representatives from the USA, England, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Ireland enriched the event with their diversity of experiences and perspectives. This cultural mix was instrumental in strengthening our global cooperation and generating new ideas. Extensive company tours and impressive demos were conducted over the course of the two days. These enabled our guests to gain a deep insight into our innovative processes and products. In addition, the sessions provided space for exciting discussions and the exchange of best practices.

The participants were enthusiastic about the technologies presented and the outstanding achievements of our teams worldwide. The positive feedback and open discussions helped to create an inspiring and motivating atmosphere. In addition to the technical level, the interpersonal interaction was not neglected. In a relaxed atmosphere, many contacts were made and existing relationships were deepened. The joint dinner and informal discussions provided the perfect setting for the intercultural exchange.

The Service Champion Meeting was a great success and we would like to thank all participants for their commitment and participation. This event not only strengthened our global network but also laid the foundation for future innovation and collaboration.

RUBBLE MASTER cultivates a corporate culture that unites. That is why the RM Group has once again organized the RM Summer Festival this year. On Friday, 30 June, around 400 employees, their families, suppliers and customers celebrated until the early hours of the morning. There were delicious cocktails, delicious food and refreshing ice cream for everyone. The children could let off steam on a bouncy castle, get creative in a painting corner and experience lots of adventures during a scavenger hunt. The musical framework is provided by the rock band “Southern-Steel-Riders”, with an RM employee as front vocalist.

Last Friday, June 30th, the annual Supplier Day of the RM Group took place. This event provided the perfect platform to present the latest developments, plans and innovations of RUBBLE MASTER and enable an intensive exchange with the suppliers. In addition to deep insights into the world of RUBBLE MASTER and resilience workshops, the highlight was the excursion into the steel worlds of Voest Alpine.

With cool drinks and delicious food at the subsequent RM Summer Festival, participants had the opportunity to network, make new contacts and strengthen existing relationships. With around 60 participants, Supplier Day was once again a resounding success that not only strengthened the connection to the suppliers, but also laid the foundation for future collaborations and innovations. It is an honor from AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) for the top exporters of the country who stand out for their exceptional efforts and successes abroad. A professional jury carefully selected the winners. The prestigious export award has already been given for the 29th time. “At RUBBLE MASTER, we are proud of our staff who play a significant role in securing our success in the international market. We are delighted to receive the Austrian Export Award. As the demand for our RM plants is high, we plan to expand our production capacities in Linz and establish a service center as well as a logistics center. DI Dorian Wessely, head of the Cleantech Cluster (CTC) at Upper Austria’s Business Location Agency, RM CEO Gerald Hanisch and RM CFO Günther Weissenberger met for an expert talk to discuss the most pressing issues of the recycling industry. With a recycling rate of 88%, Austria ranks among the top performers in Europe. The growing awareness of sustainability, circular economy, and building material recycling is driving growth for RUBBLE MASTER. In 2022, the RM Group recorded a total revenue of around 232 million euros, an increase of 20% compared to the previous year.

“The revenue growth is due to both increasing demand and price increases. We are delighted with the very positive results, which we clearly attribute to our technological lead in electrification. The topic of fuel savings through electrification strikes a chord with the times,” explains Gerald Hanisch, founder and CEO of the RM Group. The current fiscal year is also developing very satisfactorily for RUBBLE MASTER, with orders booked until the end of the year, reinforcing the company’s growth strategy. “We expect further revenue growth to around 270 million euros in 2023, driven by the worldwide strong demand for energy-efficient solutions and circular economy,” adds Günther Weissenberger, Managing Director and CFO of the RM Group.

Expertise from Austria in global demand

RUBBLE MASTER exports its products to 110 countries worldwide, with around 65% of revenue generated in the European market. The RM Group’s technological advantage is a key factor in this market. North America and the Middle East are also important markets. RUBBLE MASTER’s mobile crushers and screens are used in mega-construction projects such as the Maya Train infrastructure project in Mexico, the sustainable urban development project Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, and “The Line” in Saudi Arabia. Southeast Asia is also a growing market for RUBBLE MASTER. In May, the Linz-based company opened a new branch in Singapore to serve growth markets such as India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea and to establish the RM brand and mobile crushing and screening business model even better locally.

In these markets, knowledge transfer and years of experience in the recycling sector play an essential role. Along with their machines, RUBBLE MASTER’s technical expertise is increasingly in demand. The RM Group has already held workshops with the Indian government and a technical university to gather ideas on how to establish construction waste recycling in India and what requirements recycled material must meet for reuse, such as for road sub-surfaces. “Many countries simply lack clear regulations on how recycled material should be handled and what requirements it must meet for reuse, such as for road sub-surfaces,” says Hanisch, adding, “The Southeast Asian market is experiencing an extraordinary upswing. Construction sites and projects are being launched, and there is a high demand for processed material, which is used, for example, in cement production.”

Expanding locations: GreenTech creates more jobs in Upper Austria

Despite a high export rate, the RM Group remains loyal to its production sites in Linz and Dungannon/Northern Ireland and is even expanding its capacities in the Südpark Linz-Pichling. Around 450 crushers and screens left the factories in 2022, and the company plans to increase this number gradually. This year, there should be 550 machines, and the specialist in mobile crushing and screening aims to adjust production to the order situation by 2027.

In terms of sustainability, RUBBLE MASTER also aims to be a role model: “In the coming years, we want to be energy-neutral at our Linz site,” Hanisch confirms. Existing concepts such as thermal-active building elements, which are used as heating, and low-energy and passive construction methods are being expanded. In addition, RM will produce electricity in Linz through a photovoltaic system, which will be installed and put into operation shortly. Through additional energy buffers, the energy released during the startup of plants is fed back and reused at the site.

Digitalization and electrification: Innovation through cooperation

RM hybrid machines or the hybrid crusher’s electric drive can save customers up to 30% on diesel costs. This was already a significant economic and ecological argument for electrifying RM systems even before steadily rising fuel prices. If the crusher drives the screen, the customer also saves time and money, as they only have to refuel one machine or service the motor of one system. In addition to electrification, RM crushers and screens are also becoming increasingly intelligent and can be networked with each other in the future. In such a machine train, each individual machine adjusts to the utilization of the other connected machines. Idle times or overload can be avoided in this way.

“We are actively driving innovations in the electrification and digitization of our machines to solve the pressing everyday problems of our customers, such as rising operating costs. Remote data access, remote service support, and intelligent networking of our machines accelerate service processes, save the operator time and thus facilitate everyday life on the construction site,” explains CEO Gerald Hanisch. A key success factor for innovation is cooperation with universities, start-ups, and the Cleantech Cluster. “Network exchange is a key feature of the CTC. We offer the opportunity to proactively exchange ideas with other companies, address challenges, and learn from the experiences of others in order to make the right decisions early on,” emphasizes Wessely on the benefits of the CTC for entrepreneurs.

New requirements for future skilled workers

RM is consistently driving the topics of digitization and electrification within the company. This means that the requirements for future skilled workers are also changing. In order to train and retain employees, RUBBLE MASTER pays attention to a good mix of experienced workers and young potentials. “Especially with regard to the shortage of skilled workers, we have been training apprentices ourselves for decades. Our strategic goal is to have 10% of our employees as apprentices. Recently, some have completed their training, so we currently have 12 trainees. By August, we want to increase the number of apprentices to about 20,” says Günther Weissenberger and adds, “Another important point is the constant further training of employees, for example through our RM Academy. This is how we ensure our innovative power and ensure that our customers have machines that meet the requirements of the digitized construction site,” said Günther Weissenberger.
